Why choose an Electric car on the Motability Scheme?
There are plenty of reasons why you should choose an electric Motability car over a traditional engine vehicle. One of the biggest draws of an EV is that it has lower running and maintenance costs. It’s estimated electric drivers can save up to £1,000 a year in fuel. Additional electric car advantages include:
- A more environmentally friendly choice as they have zero tailpipe emissions.
- Simpler to drive as they're automatic.
- Instant torque and acceleration for a smoother driving experience.
- Exemption from road tax (VED).
- A wall box charger is supplied and installed at home at no extra cost with the Motability Scheme.

Why choose a plug-in hybrid on the Motability Scheme?
Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) are a good option for Motability as the electric battery will allow you to cut down on fuel costs, whilst the addition of the petrol engine provides a backup for longer journeys. You can typically save more on running costs with a plug-in hybrid rather than a self-charging hybrid. This is because electric batteries are larger in a PHEV and can be charged by plugging in, giving the car a higher electric only range.
PHEVs are particularly beneficial for those who take mainly shorter journeys, such as 25 – 40-mile trips as this will allow you to travel on electric power only, saving on running costs. For those that live in cities, or often stop-and-start drive, plug-in hybrids can be a good choice too. Using the brakes often will help recharge the electric battery (usingregenerative braking technology) so you can cover more miles on electric.
Is the DS 4 E-TENSE Right for me?
The DS 4 E-TENSE hatchback is a powerful plug-in hybrid that combines innovative Formula E technology with award-winning style. The DS 4 has been voted the most beautiful car of 2022 at the 37th Festival Automobile International jury. The car can cover up to 34 miles (WLTP) in full electric mode. After that, you have the backup of the turbocharged petrol PureTech 180hp engine, so you will never be caught short.
The car has plenty of other features that Motability customers will find useful, such as:
- No compromise on boot space due to inventine housing of the batteries beneath the floor.
- Takes less than two hours to recharge the battery using a 7kW wallbox. Using a three-pin socket you can recharge in around 8 hours - perfect for overnight charges.
- The E-SAVE function allows you to store energy for driving in 100% electric mode over the last 10 or 20 miles of your journey. This means you can save electric-only power for use around town such as low-emission zones.
- 360 vision camera* - safely manoeuvre with full visibility around you and ultrasonic sensors.
- Lane-keeping assist - automatically keeps you in the lane by identifying if you cross the white line. Can be easily deactivated by gripping the steering wheel firmly.
